Today we hiked out to Horseshoe Bend. This is a 270 degree bend in the Colorado River just south of Glen Canyon Dam near Page, AZ. It’s a 1.5 mile hike up and down hills over rough terrain in 90 degree heat. Not that big of a deal… unless you’re on crutches. Maddie was a trooper. This after she crutched half a mile through Antelope Canyon. The hike was worth it; look at that view.
The Colors of Antelope Canyon
Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon (formed from rushing water-typically flash flooding-carving into the sandstone). Upper Antelope Canyon is about a 1/2 mike walk in and out . The kids loved taking pictures and Maddie walked the full length on crutches in the soft sand with us. The colors as you will see were amazing.
Weather and Traffic on the 8s
If you listen to KCBS you know what this means, but in our case it’s rain every afternoon. Heavy monsoon rain. Often mixed in with traffic and road construction.
No officer, I was not texting while driving (I was only videoing).
Grand Canyoning
Meet Cliff and Crag
Our trip mascots. Risking their lives at the edge of the Grand Canyon.
Call IT
Fortunately we brought our own IT guy. So far today Jason has installed the Blu-ray player and fixed the toaster.
Happy Birthday Jason!
Strolling Through Camp
Spotted a buck while camping near the Grand Canyon.
First Casualty
Mrs. Travel Bear burnt her leg on a lamp. Maddie made a cast.
Route 66 Stop
Decided to take cover from the rain and have dinner in town before heading to our Grand Canyon campsite. Stopped in Williams, a historic Route 66 town that felt like we stepped back in time about 60 years.
Who Knew it was Monsoon Season?
We got caught in quite a downpour!
